Sulphur Springs Corvette Classic 2015
The Sulphur Springs Corvette Club’s annual Corvette Classic has become one of the leading Corvette venues in the four States area. The response for 2015 was unbelievable with over two (2) hundred Corvettes coming for the two day event. October is always a month of the best of weather or the worst. 2014 was the very best. 2015 was not as good with rain coming from a hurricane in the Pacific for four straight days.
The Club prides itself in its ability to plan and implement the very best show possible and this year that was tested, but everyone stayed the course and the show was on rain or shine.
McKenzie Estate Tour: The Tour to the McKenzie Estate was a big hit with over one hundred attending. With rain coming down in sheets, the attendees were very determined to see the World Class hunting trophy displays. No one was disappointed that they had weathered the trip. We all just stood in awe at what Mickey and Barbara have done to exhibit wild animals from all parts of the globe. They were, as usual, very gracious host, welcoming each person at the door.
Welcome Dinner: The Country Club parking lot was at capacity with Corvettes everywhere as the annual dinner began. The sold out event brought Corvette owners from Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. The pre-dinner mixer was great with a live Jazz band and refreshments. The guest speaker was Johnny Downs, Chairman of the Corvette Museum and a great friend of the SSCC. He presented a history of the Museum and current status of the new additions and services provided. He presented a free membership to a lucky attendee at the close of his presentation. The evening ended with the introduction of Danny Seed, General Sales Manager of Lakeside Chevrolet, the new “Dealer Sponsor” of the SSCC and the Corvette Classic. Danny then presented a ticket winner with a new 54” Flat Screen TV.
Corvette Classic Show: The Corvette Classic is held each year in October on the award winning Celebration Plaza and War Memorial in Sulphur Springs, Texas. It is advertised as “Rain or Shine” due to the availability of the Plaza; therefore, the show was on. Large tents were erected late Friday night and all the show props were in place by 7:00 a.m. All the volunteers were in place and Corvettes poured in at 7:30. Over 65 beautiful cars were on display as the rain continued. Everyone was very encouraging of our steadfastness and preparation. The rain stopped for three hours and the judging ended on time without a hitch. At 1:00 the trophies were awarded, pictures were taken and the event closed at 2:00. Many stayed around to visit the shops and café’s on the Plaza.
Everyone agreed that they were glad that they came and most found the windshield wiper control for the first time. The funds from the event will be awarded to four charities to be named in 2016.
Summary: The Sulphur Springs Corvette Club, its members and Sponsors wish to thank all of the great Corvette owners and friends who continue to make the Classic a special event. We of course wished for another beautiful day at the Plaza, but rain was needed by so many, that we agreed not to complain. We thank all of those who supported us and could not attend our events this year. So many have called and expressed their best wishes and encouragement. The whole event is about the “Passion” that we all share for the Corvette and that “Passion” continues.
